How to Print PDF from iPhone

PDFs are the easiest file type to print from an iPhone because iOS handles them natively โ no third-party apps, no conversions. Whether your PDF lives in Files, an email, Safari, or the Books app, here's how to print it in under a minute.
Method 1: Print a PDF from the Files App
The Files app is where most PDFs end up โ email attachments you saved, downloads from Safari, AirDropped files, and iCloud Drive documents.
- Open the Files app on your iPhone.
- Browse to the folder containing your PDF (iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, or Downloads).
- Tap the PDF to open it in the iOS PDF viewer.
- Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap Print.
- Select your printer, set the number of copies, and tap Print.
Method 2: Print a PDF from an Email Attachment
You don't need to download the PDF first โ Mail can print attachments inline.
- Open the Mail app and open the email with the PDF.
- Tap the PDF attachment to preview it.
- Tap the Share button in the top-right corner.
- Select Print.
- Choose your printer and tap Print.
The same workflow works in Gmail, Outlook, Spark, and other iPhone email clients โ just look for the Share icon when previewing the attachment.
Method 3: Save a Webpage as PDF, Then Print
Safari doesn't print web pages directly very well โ long articles get cut off, ads get included, and layout breaks. The fix: convert the page to a PDF first, then print it.
- Open the web page in Safari.
- Tap the Share button at the bottom.
- Tap Print (not the printer icon โ the word "Print").
- In the Print Preview, pinch outward on the thumbnail with two fingers.
- The preview expands into a full PDF โ tap Share again.
- Tap Save to Files, then open the Files app and print from there.
Method 4: Print a PDF from the Books App
If you've opened PDFs in Apple Books for reading, you can print them directly from there:
- Open Books and tap Library.
- Find the PDF and open it.
- Tap the screen to reveal the menu, then tap the List icon (top right).
- Tap Print or Share โ Print.
- Select your printer and confirm.
Printing Specific PDF Pages
By default, your iPhone prints all pages of a PDF. To print only certain pages:
- In the Print Options screen, tap Range (or All Pages).
- Switch to Custom and enter the page range, e.g. 1-3 or 5,7,9.
- Tap Print.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my PDF print with missing pages?
This usually happens with very large PDFs (100+ pages). iOS sometimes times out before sending the full document. Split the PDF into smaller chunks using a free app like PDF Expert, then print each part separately.
Can I print a password-protected PDF?
You'll need to unlock the PDF first. Open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader or PDF Expert, enter the password, then use the Share โ Print option from inside that app.
How do I print a PDF double-sided from iPhone?
Double-sided (duplex) printing depends on your printer, not your iPhone. In Print Options, look for Duplex or Two-Sided. If the option doesn't appear, your printer doesn't support automatic duplex โ you'll have to manually flip the paper.
